Being a member of the Port Washington Fire Department is about a lot more than just putting out fires. It’s an opportunity to be part of an exciting profession that prepares you to help your community when it needs it most.  Members join for different reasons.  Some members enjoy the excitement that emergency services offer.  Some see the fire service as an alternative to “driving a desk all day.”  Others join for the vital hands-on experience needed for a full-time fire service or medical career.

The Port Washington Fire Department is always accepting applications for paid-on-call firefighters and emergency medical technicians.  Our combination department is very dependent on our dedicated membership to assure that we can fulfill our mission of protecting the community.

After joining, members must attend either the State Firefighter I or Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification course.  Hosted by a local technical college, these classes run over the course full semester and include both classroom and practical instruction.  Ongoing training is provided by the Port Washington Fire Department, which mandates 60 hours of annual continuing education.
