The City of Port Washington is accepting applications for two full-time Firefighter/Paramedics. Port Washington, population 12,952, is nestled along the Wisconsin shore of Lake Michigan just north of Milwaukee. Our combination department, which has proudly provided fire protection and pre-hospital emergency medical care since 1852, responds to approximately 1,950 calls for service annually. As a 911-based service, the department delivers advanced life support to the residents of Port Washington while also providing ALS intercept services throughout much of northern Ozaukee County.

The department maintains active Rescue Task Force, Technical/Low Angle Rescue, Surface Water Rescue, and Dive Teams. This summer, the department will move into a new state-of-the-art public safety building designed to support the evolving needs of both our members and the community. In addition, a new fire engine is scheduled for delivery in August as part of the department’s continued investment in modern equipment and operations.

Our firefighting apparatus are equipped with top-of-the-line equipment, including MSA G1 SCBA and TNT Rescue Tools. Ambulances feature Stryker Power-LOAD stretchers, LIFEPAK 35 cardiac monitors, Butterfly ultrasound, Sapphire infusion pumps, and UE video laryngoscopes. Utilizing progressive, evidence-based protocols, our Paramedics are empowered to practice at the top of their license.

Reporting to the shift Lieutenant, Firefighter/Paramedics serve in a dynamic range of emergency and non-emergency roles, including fire protection, emergency medical care, technical rescue response, and community risk reduction. They ensure that equipment and facilities are always in a state of readiness. Opportunities will be available to lead training, develop quality improvement initiatives, and organize public outreach programs. This role involves close collaboration with a dedicated team of part-time and full-time personnel in a supportive, close-knit environment.

Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, energetic, and driven Firefighter/Paramedics committed to helping others, and the organization succeed. They must possess Wisconsin Firefighter I and EMT-Paramedic (or reciprocity with IFSAC/NREMT) certifications. Ideal candidates would also have Wisconsin Firefighter II and Driver-Operator. A valid driver's license is also required. Throughout the application process, candidates will complete an assessment center evaluation, participate in oral interviews, undergo drug screening, and pass both a physical examination and a background check.

​​​The position offers a starting salary of $67,000 - $76,400, based on 2,912 annual work hours, along with a highly competitive benefits package. Firefighter/Paramedics work a 48/96 shift schedule, with additional opportunities for overtime and paid training. Lateral transfer candidates will be considered, with pay step placement based on experience and qualifications and the opportunity to reach top pay in as little as three years.
