The Port Washington Fire Department Explorer Post 9110 is dedicated to promoting the growth and development of young adults interested in learning about the fire service. In addition to gaining hands-on knowledge of fire service through organized training, safety education, and supervised fire scene response; Explorers are also provided with the opportunity to develop leadership, social, and team-building skills. The Explorer Post offers preparation for the state fire certification examination.
The Port Washington Fire Department Explorer Post began approximately 20 years ago, as the Juniors Program. With limited enrollment the program was disbanded for 5 years, but then restarted in the early 1990s. Port Washington became an official Exploring Post, associated with Learning For Life and the Boy Scouts in 1995. Currently, 13 members of the PWFD were at one time Explorer Post or Junior members.
