Making the commitment to serve as a
firefighter or emergency medical technician is a serious decision that
involves an extensive commitment and dedication. The Port
Washington Fire Department provides an opportunity to experience personal
growth and advancement, while engaging in a profession that is vital to
the safety of the community.
Members joining our the Port Washington
Fire Department must attend, and pass the State of Wisconsin
Certified Fire Fighter I certification class through one of the state
technical colleges. The Fire Fighter 1 class runs over the course of
a full semester and includes 96 hours of classroom and practical
instruction. EMTs must attend Emergency Medical
Technician- Basic certification course again through the state technical
college system. This is also a one semester class consisting of 140 hours
of classroom and clinical training. Further training is provided by
the Port Washington Fire Department, require 60 additional training hours
per year.
